5 Best Flooring For Dry Climate Products

The best flooring for dry climates can be hard to find, especially if you don’t know what you’re looking for. By contrast, you might think that the best flooring material would be one that absorbs water or humidity from the air, like cork flooring, or maybe something very smooth and porcelain-like that doesn’t hold onto dirt or debris easily. While these features can make your home more comfortable, they won’t keep it dry in the long run. To learn more about selecting the right type of flooring for your dry climate, keep reading!

The ABCs of Hardwood Floors

Hardwood flooring comes in solid products and engineered products. Solid hardwoods are made from one piece of wood, such as maple or oak. Engineered hardwoods are made from several pieces of wood compressed together with adhesives to form one board, such as engineered oak. Engineered hardwoods are best for dry climates because they don’t absorb moisture like solid hardwoods do.

With that said, if you live in a dry climate, it is best to use an engineered product because it will resist scratches better than solid wood floors when furniture slides across the floor. Solid hardwood floors may need more maintenance than engineered hardwood floors because they can be damaged by heat or heavy objects dropped on them more easily than an engineered product.

Hardwood flooring requires a controlled climate. Otherwise, your floor could warp. One of the most common problems homeowners face is losing power for an extended number of days. If this happens during the summer months, their hardwood flooring could get damaged.

The extreme hot or cold temperatures would make their hardwood floors swell up or shrink. Another good reason you might look at picking engineered wood over solid wood is that there are different grades of engineered wood available in the market today.

Higher-quality hardwoods tend to be resistant to bending, cracking, denting, and even warping due to temperature changes. It's also worth noting that lower-quality woods aren't always easy in a dry climate either!

Hardwood flooring, while beautiful, might not be the best or safest flooring option for dry climates. Because solid hardwood floors absorb moisture, humidity makes the floor susceptible to water damage. When wet, the timber expands and then contracts which cause stress points in both joints and beams of solid wood floors that have been laid on concrete slabs.

Furthermore, it is possible for mold growth to occur which may lead to respiratory ailments for those who have allergies or asthma issues. To keep your home safe, you might look at an engineered product such as bamboo instead of hardwood if you reside in a dry climate area where there are high levels of humidity (typically less than 50% relative humidity).

7 Things to Know About Luxury Vinyl Plank

#1 - Luxury vinyl plank floors are an excellent choice if you live in a dry climate because they are waterproof. They can also be found with several moisture-resistant finishes so that your floor will still look great even if it gets wet.

#2 - Unlike laminate or hardwood, luxury vinyl plank floors don’t expand and contract due to humidity changes. You’ll never have to worry about cracks appearing in your flooring.

#3 Luxury vinyl plank flooring is very durable. It's one of the hardest floor coverings on the market, which means scratches are rare. With proper care, your new luxury vinyl plank floors should last for many years!

#4 Luxury vinyl plank is easy to clean. A simple mop or vacuum cleaner will do the trick. You can even wipe them down with water from time to time without worrying about damage!

.

#5 - In case you're worried about installing luxury vinyl plank yourself, no worries--they're easy to install too! They come pre-finished and in large planks that are lightweight enough for most people to handle alone. If not, ask a friend for help; installation shouldn't take more than two hours per room.

#6 - Dry climates present a unique set of challenges when it comes to flooring selection. Dampness and temperature fluctuations can lead to warping, shrinking, cracking, and peeling paint over time. And if you've got kids running around who love spilling their juice boxes all over the place (or pets who love rolling around on your freshly mopped floors), then luxury vinyl plank may be perfect for you!

#7 - Luxury vinyl plank can bring beauty and warmth into any home, especially those living in dry climates. With its durability and practicality, this type of flooring is sure to please any homeowner.

One final thought about luxury vinyl plank flooring: Did you know there are pet-friendly versions available? Pet owners will appreciate how easy these floors are to clean up after messes.

Why Carpet Still Rocks

Carpet is still one of the best flooring options for people living in dry climates. Carpet is affordable, easy to clean, and can be left on your floor year-round. One of the only downsides to carpet is that it may show stains from pet accidents more easily than other types of flooring; make sure you have professional cleaners clean up any messes quickly so that it doesn’t stain your carpet. Soil-resistant carpets can be a good option if you have children or pets running around constantly spilling food or drink on your floors.

Carpets come in nylon, polyester, olefin, wool, and other types. They all have various pros and cons which I will go into later but what's important is knowing how these materials react to dry climates before making a decision about which type of carpet to buy.

Nylon is a synthetic material that does not retain as much water as polyester so when it dries it dries faster than polyester would in an arid climate like Arizona. Olefin fibers are hydrophobic and this makes them great for reducing moisture levels but not ideal if there are high levels of foot traffic such as in schools, office buildings, etc where there are repeated wet spills that lead to dampness over time.

Wool has great moisture resistance, which makes it an excellent choice to use anywhere in dry climates, but it's usually more expensive than other options. There are other types of carpet that can be used as well depending on your areas like jute which have their own unique pros and cons.

The important thing is knowing how carpet reacts to moisture in different areas and then choosing what type of material you want to go with accordingly so you aren't getting flooring that will not last as long as it should, even if it's affordable!

3 Stylish Ways to Use Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile is easily one of the most versatile materials for flooring, adding both modern flair and timeless style to any home. Here are 3 great ways to use ceramic tile around your home:

#1 - Ceramic showers have become incredibly popular. They're a great option for keeping dry climates dry as well! Unlike hard surfaces like porcelain or marble, which can get damaged from water exposure, these floors are waterproof and made from a non-porous material that won't absorb moisture or mold. Just make sure you choose safe grout colors to avoid staining!

#2 - Use ceramic tile in the wet areas of your home, like mud rooms, bathrooms, and entryways. Ceramic tile is great because it's sturdy enough to withstand heavy traffic while also being lightweight and somewhat easy to install.

Plus, it doesn't crack under cold temperatures making it perfect for extremely dry climates. It's also extremely durable, so even if someone spills coffee on the floor no worries--simply wipe up with a little bit if water. Lastly, if you have kids/pets this is a GREAT choice because it resists stains from pet accidents, and playtime messes.

#3 - Make a big statement with ceramic tile by using it on an accent wall like a kitchen backsplash. Not only does the brightness stand out against dark cabinetry, but you can create some really fun designs! There are endless color options when it comes to designing with ceramic tile, from neutral tones like beige and white to more vibrant tones like cobalt blue or raspberry red.

Bonus #4 - Add contrast between other flooring types. While there is no rule that says you MUST use a certain type of flooring in every room (in fact mixing things up will create interest), if you want to add some contrast then think about using ceramic tile in kitchens or dining rooms.

The Benefits of Area Rugs

We still believe area rugs are a great solution to cover up an ugly floor, but they also serve other purposes. They can help insulate your floor and make it more comfortable to walk on. In addition, they have noise-reducing qualities that help keep the sound of your footsteps at bay.

But remember, if you're worried about wear and tear, think about getting an indoor/outdoor rug that is made of high-quality synthetic fibers. These rugs will resist abrasions and last longer than others.

For dry climates, area rugs do a fantastic job of wicking away moisture from floors, which helps prevent them from cracking or warping. If your home is plagued by dryness and or other flooring issues, consider adding area rugs to your home's design plan.

Area rugs absorb sound and increase air quality while trapping dirt particles--all good things when dealing with a dry climate!

You should also consider an area rug's texture and feel when it comes to dry climates. A plush and thick rug will provide better insulation and comfort than thinner, low-pile options. It's also important to think about how your floor feels beneath your feet. The wrong rug can make you more prone to slipping, so be sure to select one that has some cushioning!

You might consider switching to an area rug if you have pets or children. Area rugs don't have sharp edges that could harm your pet, and they can also be removed to clean when necessary. Think about your own habits too—if you spend lots of time rolling around on your floor with kids, an area rug will cushion their falls!

Plus, it's more fun to play with toys on a soft carpet rather than hardwood or tile floors. There are many benefits to using area rugs in dry climates, but only if you choose wisely!
