Over the past several years, most of the retail floor covering stores have gotten away from selling area rugs in their stores. Why? Real estate space. Rugs just take up too much room. Stores have discovered if they fill their space with other types of display racks (laminate, carpet, hardwood, etc...) their sales are better.
So, for the customer that is looking for a nice home area rug, where do they go? Locally, you are reduced to shopping at a box store, or finding those 1 or 2 stores that might still have rugs. Here is the problem: for the most part, the box stores have a very limited selection of area rugs, and they are usually on the low end of the pricing/quality type. The few floor covering stores that you do find that sell area rugs, are usually the opposite of the box stores. These rugs are usually way over-priced, and not a very good buy.
So where do people go to find area rugs? Apartment Therapy has a very nice article on the internet (https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/style-on-a-budget-10-sources-for-good-cheap-rugs-203600) suggesting 10 different places you can shop for cheap rugs on a budget. They suggest these 10 stores:
1. West Elm
3. Rugs USA
4. World Market
5. Urban Outfitters
6. Lulu & Georgia
7. Joss & Main
10. Crate & Barrel
While this is a very good list, we think your number #1 place to shop for area rugs should be Amazon. Amazon has a great selection of area rugs. Fast shipping. Great pricing. Tons of reviews. Most of the time, each area rug comes in multiple colors and sizes. They provide multiple pictures, and even product videos. EXPERIENCE AMAZON AREA RUGS
