Have you ever received in the mail, or heard on the radio, or watched one of those television commercials talking about FREE INSTALLATION. FREE FURNITURE MOVING. FREE REMOVAL OF OLD CARPET?
What a joke! I'm telling you right now, as an industry veteran, don't fall for this trap. Do you really think the flooring stores are going to cut their margin and offer you this incredible deal? Of course not!
Let me share with you what is really happening here...
Flooring stores mark up their products at a crazy high rate. For example, a carpet that costs a store $0.75 a square foot to purchase, they might sell for $5.99 a square foot. On a normal day, they are laughing all the way to the bank when that poor customer comes in and makes a purchase. Even worse, they offer customers some sort of financing deal to make it look more attractive. Of course... they don't tell the customer they are adding the extra finance fee on to their order.
Now, let's take a look at these special "no installation charge" weekend sales. Of course the stores can offer "free installation." When you're marking up your products 1000%, you can offer your customer whatever you want too. It's really that simple. The customer is getting screw#$%^#@ed!
Let's take a look at carpet pad. That great pad they are selling you for $1.00 a square foot, guess how much that costs the store to purchase? Probably about $0.15 a square foot.

HERE IS HOW TO PURCHASE FLOORING THE RIGHT WAY...
Every store has a sales person that is responsible for "commercial sales." Stores define "commercial sales" as new homes, apartments, office space, realtor jobs, etc...These sales people make their money from sales commissions. Instead of walking in blind to a retail floor covering store, here is what you should do:
Call the store ahead of time and ask who does their commercial work. Then....visit the store or call ahead of time and ask to speak to that person. The commercial person works under a different pricing structure. Instead of getting charged a 1000% above cost, the commercial person has the ability to sell you products at a much more reasonable margin (15%-30%). Even though your job might not be "commercial," ALL OF THESE PEOPLE WORK ON COMMISSIONS. Believe me, if you call them, they will help you! Do this....and you will save thousands of dollars!
