Cabana Life is a 29 oz product, and the sister product to Cabana Bay (25 oz). Both products share the same color line. This carpet is not the best product that Shaw Floors offers. It is also does not have the best warranty that Shaw Floors offers. However, if you're looking for a nice piece of carpet, that will also be very affordable, we think Cabana Life would be a good product for you to consider.
If you have a rental property, or a starter home, or maybe you're looking to re-carpet a basement or some empty bedrooms, this would be a great carpet for you. Cabana Life is going to last a long time, and it's not going to break the bank account. It is one of the most affordable, durable carpets that Shaw Floors sells.
On the flip side, this carpet is on the low-end of your possible carpet options. If you're looking for that really thick, plush carpet, or that fancy patterned carpet, this is not the product for you.
Every product has its best areas of use. Cabana Life is for the budget-minded customer, looking to purchase flooring that will last a long time, and likewise, not destroy their bank account. The best place to install Cabana Life is in the following type of environments:
For Sale Homes
One of the best uses of Cabana Life is in homes that are getting ready to be sold. Many times before a home can be listed, a home owner will need to do some minor repairs. The last thing a home owner wants to do, is to spend a lot of money on a home project prior to selling it. Cabana Life is a great product to refresh the look of a bedroom or family room. The carpet is very affordable and looks great.

Shaw Cabana Life might be somewhat difficult to find in retails stores. Many times, stores will sample this product in what they call "deck boards." Here is an example of a "deck board" sample:
In most cases, you'll need to ask your sales person to find a sample board of Cabana Life It will not be a carpet most stores will push. We have a great blog article, "How To Buy Flooring For Your Home," that really does a wonderful job in explaining the process you should take when shopping for floor covering. We highly recommend that you take a few minutes to check it out.
The first thing you should realize about carpet is: not all carpet comes from the same place. Similar to every other type of product, there are many competing brands. In the world of carpet, you have: Shaw, Mannington, Mohawk, Engineered Floors, Fabrica, and many, many more.
They all compete to sell you their products. Each company does their best to develop products to get that leg up. To get that competitive advantage.
Shaw Floors patented R2X back in 2001 after years of research and testing. Over the years, it has quickly become one of the fastest growing carpet protection treatment systems. This helps Shaw Floors get that "leg up" on the competition.
"R2X is the industry's most innovative carpet stain and soil repelling system and the product of years of research and testing. Shaw's exclusive R2X system goes beyond conventional repellents that only protect the surface of the carpet. With R2X, carpets are armed with total fiber coverage, offering complete protection from the top to the bottom of the yarn" - Shaw Floors
According to Shaw Floors, "In testing, R2X demonstrated superior carpet stain resistance on two levels. First, it provides better initial protection. Second, it allows more time to react to a problem. Another significant benefit of R2X is its effectiveness with polyester and polypropylene fibers. Most polyester and polypropylene carpets have an inherent tendency to attract soil. Topical soil carpet treatments are only "skin deep," and the limited protection they offer wears away after cleaning or normal wear and tear. In contrast, R2X continues to perform well even after repeated cleanings. The performance of nylon, polyester, and polypropylene treated with ordinary systems begins to diminish. And of course, Shaw's warranty protection ensures customer satisfaction, time after time."

This is one of the reasons we think Cabana Life is a great buy for the money. If you have a few rooms in your home that need to be re-carpeted, you can install Cabana Life and get a carpet that has an awesome stain protection application built in the material. You will end up with an attractive carpet, purchased at a great price, that will last for a very long time.
Bonus Tip #1: Shaw Cabana Life - Vacuums
Cabana Life, along with all of the Shaw Floors Carpets, has a care & maintenance manual that needs to be followed. This is important to understand. If you don't follow these guidelines, you could void your warranty. With Cabana Life, you can download a copy of the care & maintenance manual here:
In the carpet care maintenance manual, Shaw has a section that talks about vacuum cleaners.
"For your vacuum to conform to the highest industry standards, make sure that it is certified through the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Seal of Approval/Green Label Vacuum Cleaner Program."
This is a very important section of their manual. If you go to the website of the CRI, you will find an entire section dedicated to vacuum cleaners (CRI Green Label Vacuum Cleaner Program).
When purchasing new carpet from Shaw Floors, you will want to make sure you have a vacuum cleaner that is on this list.
The Shaw Carpet Care Maintenance Manual will give you a great overview of how to protect your carpet from spills and stains. The manual gives you step-by-step instructions on how to properly remove stains, depending on the type of stain.
Bonus Tip #2: Shaw Cabana Life Carpet - Frequently Asked Questions
How Do You Clean Up Spills?
The first thing you want to do is to get a dull object (like a spoon), and remove as much of the soil or spill as possible.
Always work from the outside in of the spill or soiled area.
Try to remove the stain with a paper towel. You don't want to scrub the area. Gently blot it without damaging the carpet fibers.
If needed, use warm water on a second towel and repeat this procedure.
Shaw has a complete list of cleaning procedures, depending on the type of stain. For a complete review of this material, please download the Carpet Care Maintenance Manual that is listed in this article.

We have given Shaw Cabana Life 3 1/2 stars. If you are trying to find a lower end carpet, that is durable and easy to clean, we think Cabana Life would be a great option to consider.
The color line is excellent, with three different styles (solids, tonal, and berber colors).
If you're looking for a designer carpet, a thick plush piece, or an upper end product, Cabana Life would not be a good option. But, if you're looking for a carpet that is durable and won't break the bank account, Cabana Life would certainly be a good option.
At the end of the day, if used in the correct environment and for the right purpose, you won't find a better carpet for the money and durability.
